Section 1 - Introduction, summary of the Standards and flowchart of the process
Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance impact directly on young people’s decisions about their learning and career pathways. If you want learners to achieve high standards, see the value and relevance of their learning, and choose options and pathways that are successful for them; Career Mark is the tool for you…
First developed in 1996, Career Mark is now in its fifth edition; each revision ensuring learning providers continue to meet the needs of young people as they make decisions towards, through and beyond the 14-19 phase of their learning. Continuous development ensures Career Mark maps against Ofsted, the National Standards and Principles for young people’s IAG, the national IAG strategy, and Matrix.
Section 2 - Roles and responsibilities
There are three main bodies involved in the use of Career Mark:
-
the learning provider;
-
the local support service; and
-
the Assessment Centre.
Section 3 - The process in detail
This section works through the process step-by-step. It gives more detail than the flowchart in Section 1, and explains what happens, when, how, and who does what.
Please note that whilst the process is straightforward, some activities are quite complex. Further guidance on these is given in Section 4 of this handbook – these are listed in the right hand column below and are identified with the symbol &. Some activities involve the use of forms or templates, and these are identified with the symbol ¤ below.
