What is Career Mark?

Career Mark is the brand name for one of the leading national quality improvement products for careers education and guidance.

Career Mark originated with a group of local careers services in the East Midlands region in 1996 in response to requests from local schools for a common improvement framework to help them fulfil their statutory duties for careers education and guidance.

Sixteen years and 6 versions later, it is still fulfilling that purpose!

Following its initial success with schools in the East Midlands, Career Mark quickly expanded to gain a national profile and diversified to accommodate colleges and work based training providers as well as secondary schools, special schools and Sixth Forms.

Career Mark is a comprehensive development toolkit for careers education and guidance.  It supports legislation, national standards and best practice in careers. It comprises:

  • Self assessment tools

  • Development framework

  • Online support

  • Expert consultancy and support

  • User network

  • Assessment

  • Quality award

When you achieve Career Mark you show the world that you are preparing your students for a successful working life. In recognition of Career Mark’s important contribution to the achievement of this, the Institute of Career Guidance (ICG) awards one year free membership to all organisations achieving Career Mark.

Career Mark's development

Now in its 6th version, we regularly review and revise our framework and our guidance and support materials.
This ensures that Career Mark reflects the changing policy and economic environments and the changing circumstances of our users.

To achieve this we:

  • consult with customers, employees and professionals in careers education and guidance;

  • conduct research and pilot new additions;

  • collaborate with a range of strategic partner organisations;

  • consult with young people, the ultimate beneficiaries of high quality careers education and guidance

We also contribute to Government developments and consultations in the policy areas of careers education, careers guidance and employability skills development.
